The Derries

Lough Boora Parklands Landscape The Derries is one of the newest sites in the Parklands and as such is still in its infancy. Ninety-seven hectares in size, it consists of 24 hectares of permanent wetland and 72 hectares of naturally recolonising grassland and birch-willow woodland. The site is dominated by an exposed esker ridge and the newly created wetland.

Due to its isolated situation, the Derries provide an ideal sanctuary where wildlife can exist with minimal human disturbance. We ask you to respect the ethos of this site and refrain from visiting it.

The Derries is a poorly accessed site situated off the R357 Boora road. The Derries is an area set-aside for wildlife and is not designed to cater for visitors.
