Bord na Móna
Key partners

Through on-going collaboration, assessment and development with key partners, the parklands has delivered long-term benefits to the  environment and community.

Bord na Móna

Bord na Móna from its inception at the creation of the Turf Development Board in 1934, developed Ireland’s peat resources, turning lowland bogs into a commercial enterprise, harvesting and milling peat for energy and fuel production.  Nowadays Bord na Móna, has a much broader portfolio as Ireland’s leading environmentally responsible integrated utility service provider encompassing; energy generation, resource recovery, growing media, environmental solutions, heating, biodiversity and land & property management.

As this broader portfolio is developed and more bogs cease production, Bord na Móna has a significant opportunity to develop land to the benefit of wildlife, the environment and communities. It is recognised that peatlands are in themselves a rare and unique habitat and are crucial to Ireland’s wildlife and biodiversity. The company has committed to rehabilitating bogs, as large areas of cutaway bog become available over the next 10 to 20 years.

For the future Bord na Mona will work to develop a sustainable business, strategically, commercially and operationally,  in an environmentally responsible manner.

Lough Boora Parklands Group

The Lough Boora Parklands Group was established when the Boora Enterprise Group comprising a group of Bord na Móna employees, was expanded to include local community representatives from the surrounding towns and villages of Kilcormac, Ferbane, Cloghan and Leamore/Leabeg. The aim of the group is to work together with other partners to insure that Lough Boora Parklands is an integrated resource providing amenities for the local population and visitors.
